Black Cats' Stories Launched!

By Marty Henry

Black Cats’ Stories is a ground-breaking project, creating a snapshot of what football means to the people of Wearside, through digital storytelling.

Over a series of six workshops, Sunderland AFC fans shared their personal memories of the Black Cats and worked with digital storytelling experts Curiosity Creative to create short pieces of audio-visual made up of photographs, sound, moving image and animation.

Delivered in partnership by Music in the Minster, the Foundation of Light and Sunderland City Council Library Services, with funding from The Cultural Spring and The Joicey Trust, Black Cats’ Stories is part of An Opera for Sunderland, creating an opera for the City of Sunderland. The digital stories will become sources of inspiration for the professional librettist and composer creating An Opera for Sunderland, which is themed around football.

You can watch these humorous and heart-warming stories about loyalty, family and keeping the faith on our site, catch them during the Black Cats’ Stories Exhibition Tour of Sunderland City Council libraries and community venues, or see them on the big screen at a special Black Cats’ Stories Screening Event.
