Angel Stories

Curiosity Creative

The 15th February 2019 marked the Angel of the North's 21st birthday. As a way of celebrating this iconic structure's birthday, Curiosity Creative has been working with local groups to record personal stories and thoughts inspired by the Angel.

What does the Angel mean to you?
Can you remember when the Angel was built?
Do you love it or hate it?  Why?

A group from Lobley Hill Community Centre based just down the road from the Angel's location have recorded stories about what the Angel means to them, including a story about a real life Angel of the North called Sister Winifred Laver who worked as a missionary in the Teams area of Gateshead. Other stories describe the Angel as a "welcome home" sign when working away from home and another story has been told as a poem.

What does the Angel mean to you? Would love to hear your stories too!
