The Ghost of Red Rum

By Tara

Recently I went on a visit to Seaton Delaval Hall with Search which is a charity based in the West End of Newcastle. It is a charity that makes growing old marvellous. Marvellous indeed as my visit to Seaton Delaval Hall which brought memories back to the sixties. Travelling the bumpy road from Dudley to Seaton Sluice, and my mother would say ‘Don’t forget to wave at the Queen when we pass.

My visit was absolutely fabulous, the awe of being surrounded by beauty and the history of wealth that has been preserved for hundreds of years.

The gardens are so beautiful, you can see all of the volunteers cutting roses etc. It made me feel tranquil. On visiting the stables, a funny thing happened. I could’ve sworn I heard the sound of a horse. Once I got home I asked my family ‘Do you believe in ghosts’. My son said maybe it was Red Rum sending you messages about who is going to win at the races today. It turns out there is a sensor that makes the sound of a horse when you go into the stables.

Please come and visit Seaton Delaval Hall and support the National Trust. If you live in the West End and are over 50, call in to Search for a better old life.
