The Mitre (Benwell Towers)

By Shuayb Ahmed

Have you heard of Byker Grove? Well Byker Grove was a TV series and the building it was set in is what I’m going to talk about. So the Mitre is the name of the building, I work at the Mitre and I help out. What they have decided to do is turn it into a mosque and Islamic school. At the Mitre I help rake and cut the grass. I really enjoy working there because I get to meet up with some friends and I also can play about once I finish. Even though I would finish school by the time the building’s finished, I want other people to go there and learn. The reason why I want it is because my brother and friends go to different cities like Manchester and Leicester to learn. In the building we are having work done so we’re just helping out. When you enter the building you see the place where the bodyguard sits, then if you keep going you enter a big room with high ceilings and lots of space. There’s lots of scary parts to the building like the cellars and then there’s really cool places like the rooftop where you can see everything around you. I really hope we can finish the building and I hope that the people around the area like having it there and enjoy it.
