Open Doors
Newcastle City Council is in the process of seeking to transfer a number of its buildings and land assets to the local community and other agencies. Community buildings across Newcastle have always provided activities and a focal point for local people. The Open Doors project, which is managed by the Ouseburn Trust, works to promote good practice within these buildings, ensuring that they remain relevant to their community, safe and sustainable.
Funded through the Big Lottery Fund's Awards for All Fund, Curiosity Creative was commissioned by the Ouseburn Trust to work with a number of community groups and individuals across Newcastle who were involved in the process of community asset transfer. A number of digital stories were produced which document participants thoughts, feelings and reflections of the community asset transfer process in relation to community buildings and what their community centre means to them.
These stories were then shared at a number of community screenings, they have been uploaded online and DVDs produced for participants.
