In the run-up to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Arts Council England’s People’s Record project set out to collect stories reflecting the nation’s mood and feelings about the forthcoming games.
Here in the North East, we worked with North Tyneside’s Remembering the Past Resourcing the Future project and North Tyneside VODA to record a range of stories with people from the region. Subjects range from the importance of true friendship, through to illness and ambitions.
All the stories were made by young people who were involved with VODA’s Summer of a Lifetime youth volunteering initiative. The group not only shared their own thoughts and memories, having their voices preserved in the North East’s story archive, but they also learnt recording and editing skills.
"Working alongside Curiosity Creative enabled us to offer our young people an unique opportunity to create their own Digital Stories inspired by the Olympics. The sessions were very well delivered supporting young people with a variety of support needs to document their achievements and aspirations."
