John’s Boxing Sport
John loves doing boxing and his story was inspired by a photograph of a boxing group in the Ouseburn Trust’s photographic archive.
Boxing is a way of keeping fit and healthy, it is also a way of self-defence, it is also in the Olympics every four years, sometimes I watch it on TV. I got interested as a way of keeping fit, it is my favourite sport. I’ve been interested since I was 8 years old; I started doing it at school. I learned how to do boxing using punch bags and I’ve also used speedballs. Its like, I like doing it as a way of protecting yourself as a way of self-defence. I have to wear a t-shirt and tracksuit bottoms when I am doing it. I do boxercise at walls end. Boxercise is an exercise class, you bring your own gloves and pads and sometimes you run around the room. I would like to be like Rocky Balboa.
