Rob’s Ouseburn Pub Crawl
The Ouseburn is well known for its good quality pubs and bars. Rob tells us about some of his favourites.
Ouseburn pubs, the Cumberland Arms is a traditional real ale pub which has an active live music scene especially folk and traditional, also a comedy platform for up and coming acts. Food is available and Sunday lunch is a favourite. A nice cosy open fire is handy in those long winter nights. The free trade inn is just a short walk away from the Cumberland and it’s a real man’s venue serving a good range of ales from local brewers and it boasts the most spectacular views of the river Tyne. The two beer gardens are a must on those warm summer evenings. Down the steps to The Tyne Bar for more real ale, many gigs are held here under the natural ampi theatre the glasshouse bridge. A walk along the Ouseburn takes you to the Cluny, which is famous for its live music scene, and a good range of good food and beer, this is mostly student orientated but still a good bar. Finally across the road to the Ship, recently refurbished serving good ales, good food and a great atmosphere: really, my favourite.
