Journey to Justice - Footsteps to Freedom
We are really excited to be involved in Journey to Justice's pilot project here in the North East called Footsteps to Freedom. Thanks to a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund we've been working with an intergenerational group from Newcastle Space2 and Westgate Past to explore some of the less well-known stories of local campaigns through a series of oral history workshops and visits to local archives.
The North East has a long history of campaigns for human rights and social justice, providing support and generosity to people fleeing from slavery and oppressive regimes. Many people have migrated here in search of a better future, and made a significant contribution to the region.
We've been finding out more about some of these stories and our work will feature in a new exhibition that will open at Discovery Museum on the 4th April.
