Photography Saved my Life

By Sheila Stevenson

Every picture tells a story, photography saved my life. Darker shadows all engulfing blackness all around. Stranded on an imaginary island isolated from the world. People all around, yet very alone, silence deafening, numb from feeling; photography saved my life. Find the courage to venture out, support all around, meeting new people, going to new places, learning new skills, facing the world. Camera in hand walking around the Ouseburn I can hear the sounds all around me; birds singing in the trees, water rippling by from the Burn lapping against the boats. Voices of people talking, laughing, shouting, singing, camera shutters are clicking; photography saved my life. Feeling the breeze on my face, taking in all that is around, framing the image in the camera lens, clicking the shutter, the image is captured forever. The darkness is starting to lift; I can see the sun. No longer so alone and isolated, able to feel and hear, every picture tells a story; photography saved my life.
