Memory Box – My Newcastle

Flo-Culture

Memory Box – My Newcastle is a set of stories capturing a whole range of North East events, from the everyday to the iconic and from the early 20th century to the present day, told by the people who experienced them.

The project focused on engaging older learners in new technology.

Curiosity Creative ran a series of workshops with residents of Newcastle, which took place in local libraries.

We helped people to write and record their own digital stories, capturing a variety of personal tales and memories: Dorothy fondly recounts her days delivering messages from the factories of Pelaw to Newcastle city centre for the Cooperative Wholesale Society; John remembers the arrival of Newcastle’s Millennium Bridge in 2000 from the best view in the city; and Sandra chances upon the Queen Mother as she walks to work on an ordinary day in 1961.

Memory Box – My Newcastle was led and managed by Flo-Culture and funded by NIACE.
